The earth is quite a place

As it flies through outer space

It has treasures that shine

Which were formed over time

Rocks and minerals

Gems and crystals

Grow right inside the earth

It’s chemistry at work

And it’s not too hot and it’s not too cold

It’s the place we call home

So many forms of life you could never feel alone

Plants of all designs

From the fern to columbine

They give us the air we breathe

But they sometimes make us sneeze

Animals of every kind

With or without spines

Swim or fly around

Or crawl upon the ground

Humans came along

Learned to talk and sing songs

Learned walk upon two legs

And to make scrambled eggs

And although we’ve just arrived

It feels good to be alive

For all living things are kin

On this planet that spins

It would be far too big to see

From the amoeba to the flea

To the apes and chimpanzees
